Just a quick shot of the current state of the laser cutting, almost all the contours have been cut. When Monday arrives it will be time for gluing, sanding and sculpting......
The above images show the sections the bus has been split int0, 164 in total. The acrylic I have chosen has variations in thickness ranging from 3mm to 3.4mm. To combat this the slices were taken every 3.2mm Hopefully a negligible amount of length will be loosed/gained.
With a one hour laser period, 1/5 of the bus was cut out so for more hours and construction will begin.
I have recently received the plans for the 2012 bus in the format of (Auto CAD cross sections), (3ds Max model) and (Digital Renders)
So far I have split the model in sections, allowing me to export the shape into Rhino (NURBS modelling program) this is now being split into roughly 150 3mm slices. These will be laser cut glues togeather and used as a base to begin the construction.
Currently Studying model making at the arts institute at bournemouth, creating a series of blogs following the progress of my final projects throughout the year.
